Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Type: Full-time

Why this role exists

SPARC Evolution is commercializing a proprietary hydrometallurgical refining platform that converts battery black mass into battery-grade critical materials for the electrification supply chain.

The platform has been developed and piloted, and SPARC is now advancing into continuous demonstration and first commercial facility design. We are hiring a Senior Process Engineer to lead process scale-up, optimization, and engineering design as we transition from pilot validation to industrial execution.

What you will do

This is a core technical role responsible for leading SPARC’s process design evolution from pilot to commercial deployment.

  • Lead process scale-up from piloted flowsheet to continuous demonstration and commercial design
  • Develop and maintain BFDs, PFDs, and full mass and energy balances
  • Specify, size, and evaluate core process equipment for demonstration and first commercial facilities
  • Review vendor proposals and technical bids to guide equipment selection
  • Support system commissioning, troubleshooting, and process ramp-up
  • Contribute to OPEX, CAPEX, and early engineering design packages

Who you are

Must-haves

  • BSc in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering (Master’s or PhD preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in hydrometallurgy, extractive metallurgy, chemical processing, or industrial process development
  • Strong command of process design fundamentals (flowsheets, mass balances, equipment sizing, vendor engagement)
  • Familiarity with process modeling or simulation tools (e.g., METSIM, Aspen, SysCAD)
  • Demonstrated technical judgment and ability to work independently in an execution-driven environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience scaling processes beyond lab into pilot, demonstration, or early commercial systems
  • Experience with battery materials, critical minerals, or metals refining
  • Exposure to commissioning, plant start-up, or early operations
  • Process modeling and simulation tools
  • Experience working across lab, pilot, and plant design phases

Why SPARC

  • You will have real technical ownership, not just a small slice of a large machine
  • You will see your work move from pilot to commercial reality
  • You will help build a first-of-its-kind refining platform for critical materials
  • You will work in a mission-driven, technically rigorous startup environment
  • You will directly shape how this technology is deployed at industrial scale

How to apply

If you’re motivated by building real industrial technologies that enable electrification, we’d love to hear from you. Email your CV and a short note on relevant experience to careers@SparcEvolution.com.
